Loyalty

My mom was a practical woman. When we moved to our new house in 1954, she insisted on a Maytag washer and dryer, which were gas. They were set side-by-side off the kitchen within easy access, not far from the stove, her post after work. For years these machines served her well, but one fine day, the washer caught fire. Thankfully, my dad was home and he was prepared. Though he had several fire extinguishers around the house, he grabbed some towels and smothered the fire. The clothes inside were okay, but the washer was ruined and had to be replaced. What with? you may ask. Why, with a new Maytag, of course.

When I asked my mom why, her answer was simple, “Reliable, durable and most importantly, good service.”

Let me clarify, this is not an ad for washing machines. It’s an ad for loyalty. The washer had let her down, so to speak, but it was only once, and it had been a good machine, and this was important to her. So she was loyal to the brand.

Just a thought on being reliable and doing a good job. That’s what I think of when I write.
